Current products
For many years, MacDermid Autotype has been producing high quality optical hardcoated films. The AutoTex and AutoFlex range include ‘velvet’, ‘fine’, ‘antiglare’ and ‘gloss’ finishes that provide precise optical control. The antiglare and gloss products are finding increasing use in the demanding Touchscreen market where their optical, physical and mechanical and properties are tuned to the requirements of these markets. These products, produced in large production quantities on a clean-room machine, use the same basic process as our more specialist PNR products.
Micro-lenses
MacDermid Autotype has many years of experience working with state-of-the-art originators of micro-lens arrays. We can create millions of lenses, from 10’s of microns (limited by the diffraction effects of such small lenses, not by our replication) up to 100’s of microns. Such micro-lenses have a wide range of optical applications, from amazing ‘3D’ novelty effects, through 3D/lenticular pictures to micro-lens magnifiers.
Specialist diffusers
There are numerous ways of creating special surface structures which produce special diffuser effects. Wide angle, narrow angle, symmetric, asymmetric, we can produce them for many types of applications.
Micro-prisms
There are many applications for micro-prisms and usually they require absolute fidelity and great control of prism angles. A ‘soggy’ angle can seriously undermine the performance of the micro-prisms. Because our replication is so precise, we have no problem achieving the angle acuity.
Diffraction structures
Of course we can replicate diffraction structures with great fidelity. The real question is: ‘How difficult a grating structure can be replicated?’. Small it no problem. Our moth-eye structures (see the section on Displays) are 200nm gratings which we can replicate with no problem. Deep is also no problem for us. Why do we stress the for us bit? Because although we had no problem replicating a 4:1 (depth:height) grating structure, the origination of such a structure was at the very limits of what our customer could achieve with state-of-the-art lasers and resists.
