MacDermid Autotype is proud to have been chosen by Creavis (www.creavis.de) as one of its partners to produce products based on the amazing Lotus Effect.
The lotus leaf remains clean in the dirtiest of waters: it is a super-hydrophobe that makes water run off the leaf taking particles of dirt with it. German scientists showed that the Lotus Effect requires that the surface is a hydrophobic micro-structure. The precise nature of the optimal micro-structure is proprietary to Creavis, but MacDermid Autotype has been able to replicate this structure in a hydrophobic polymer to create Lotus Effect films suitable for mass production.
It is another example of Autotype’s ability to work closely with partners and bring our specialist formulation, coating and replication technologies together into a functional package.
